Two different tasks

Line clearance removes the previous closure; cleaning restores the required condition.

Line clearance and cleaning are related but not identical. A line can look clean while still containing a cap under a flight, behind a guide or in a chute. It can also be fully clear of the previous cap but still require cleaning for the next production condition. The site procedure should define both outcomes and who verifies them.

The exact method depends on the cap, feeder construction, product environment and site quality system. This guidance does not prescribe a hygiene standard or cleaning chemical. Follow the equipment instructions, material compatibility information, site risk assessment and product-specific procedures.

Practical sequence

Build a repeatable line-clearance and restart method.

The final sequence must be written for the installed equipment and site safety system.

Stop and make safe

Use the normal stop, isolation and stored-energy procedure appropriate to the task before accessing guarded areas.

Empty bulk storage

Remove or run down hopper contents using the approved method and segregate reusable caps from rejects.

Clear hidden routes

Inspect elevator flights, bowl tooling, return channels, chute pockets, escapements and the capper handover.

Clean and inspect

Use approved materials and methods, then inspect for wear, loose parts, residue, damaged caps and sensor condition.

Fit the next format

Install change parts or make documented adjustments, confirming guides and tooling match the intended cap.

Verify identity

Check cap and bottle references, removed materials, reject containers, settings and the production paperwork.

Restore safeguards

Replace guards, reconnect intended services and confirm the area is clear before energy is restored.

Controlled restart

Run the agreed first-off and low-speed checks before releasing the line to normal production.
