Guarding has to be designed around the complete installed task.

Cap feeders can include vibrating bowls, rotating or moving sorters, elevator belts, hoppers, chutes, escapements, compressed-air devices and interfaces with conveyors or capping machinery. The hazards and access needs depend on the final arrangement, not only the feeder bought as a component.

Find the cause, replace guards, confirm the area is clear and use the controlled restart sequence.

The HSE also publishes guidance on safe maintenance of work equipment. The final procedure should be written for the actual machine and site.

Reassess safety when a feeder is added to an existing capper.

A retrofit can change access, stopping time, emergency-stop coverage, control responsibility and the way operators clear the line.
